A home away from home!
Checking into Ashbury House is like a stay with old friends. Charmaine and George are incredibly warm and welcoming hosts and provide detailed and personal service to guests.
Bedrooms are charming, comfortable and well appointed and you will linger over sumptuous breakfasts, excellent coffee and sparkling conversation.
Ashbury House is simply a home away from home!
Great B & B
My wife just returned from a trip to Ottawa, where she stayed at one of our favourite B & B's: Ashbury House. She cannot stop talking about it, making me regret not having made the trip. We have both stayed here many times and each time it better than the next. George and Charmaine are Olympic-grade hosts, rooms are more than comfortable, and the breakfasts! Did I mention the breakfasts? George and Charmaine are very accommodating, and have personally intervened to help us out when we needed it during our visits to Ottawa. Do not miss this place!
My home away from home!
Your host and hostess take the upmost care of your schedule and your likes and dislikes as best as they can. The atmosphere is casuallly friendly but not intrusive. Snug as a bug in a rug in the Glebe you are close to restaurants and some good shopping. I love that you were close to a grocery store too. Your hostess will make you her signature to die for apple pie. If you like to dance the Fred Astaire dance school is just a couple of blocks away. I highly recommend Ashbury house .
The making of our trip
We arrived at Ashbury B&B slightly later than intended to a note on the front door welcoming us and guiding us to our room. The house is beautiful and on a quieter street! Our room was exactly what we were looking for... and we were tickled to find fresh pie waiting for us in our room. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the linens/towels all fresh! Breakfast was delicious, and Charmaine and George were incredibly welcoming and gracious. We will definitely be coming back to stay at Ashbury B&B on our next visit to Ottawa. It was an absolute pleasure and the making of our trip. HIGHLY recommend.
We had a wonderful stay at this remarkable B & B. Charmaine and George are so hospitable (and the apple pie is really good!) we couldn't have found a better place to stay. The breakfasts were gourmet meals and very accommodating to any food preferences.
Home. Away from home
What a beautiful home! Charmaine and George are friendly warm hosts. We had a wonderful couple of days in Ottawa in large part because of them. Charmaine is a great chef. Her breakfasts were absolutely delicious. In the afternoon she brought up a slice of fresh apple pie. Yummy ! Our granddaughter graduated from Carelton University and it was so comfortable to have a home to come back to when we were tuckered out lol. You will absolutely love your stay. We highly recommend their beautiful Bed and Breakfast
Wish I could have stayed longer
George and Charmaine are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. They are polite, friendly and enjoy talking. I stayed here with my colleague and we didn't want to leave. I recommend staying here if you are ever spending nights in Ottawa.
GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD FOOD & GOOD ACCOMMODATIONS!
This was our FIRST EVER Bed and Breakfast experience and it was a positively, happy one! The Ashbury B&B was a great home away as we were warmly welcomed into Charmaine and George's home. They were excellent hosts and we felt honoured to meet such wonderful people who were so charming and friendly. They were genuinely accommodating and went above and beyond in providing us with a room and the delicious apple pie with tea when we arrived in the afternoon. We had travelled 4700 Km across Canada for the150th Celebration and were very delighted with our choice at The Ashbury B&B. We were very comfortable in the main level room with ironed sheets, and a lovely private marble bathroom. The Ashbury House B&B is convenient to many amenities like restaurants and shopping close by. Then it is only a 10 minute bus ride to Parliament Hill and many other sites and the hosts were very helpful with relevant information about transportation and important sites. We were so delighted with the Ashbury House B&B as it is exceptional! Take a chance on a B&B like we did and you will be pleasantly surprised with GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD GOURMET BREAKFAST & GOOD, COMFORTABLE ACCOMODATIONS.
Warm welcome, charming hosts, delicious breakfasts
Charming old B&B in the heart of Ottawa's historic Glebe neighbourhood, steps from the Rideau Canal and popular Bank Street shopping district. George and Charmaine are consummate hosts, supplying delicious breakfasts, thoughtful travel advice, and intelligent conversation. We stayed in the smaller ground-floor room with adjacent bath and found it met our needs perfectly. Additional bonuses include access to the gorgeous ground-floor sitting room, and daily visits with the resident elderly Airedale :)
When in Ottawa - you must stay here...
We stayed in the Magnolia room featuring a large queen bed and an adjoining room had a single bed plus comfortable chairs, a couch and flat screen TV. The rooms were a little warm at night (in the winter) but opening a window in each room solved the problem. Our host George is a wonderful cook and engaging host. Each morning we had juice, fruit bowl and hot plate ranging from french toast, eggs bene, eggs with sausage, etc. There were no menu repeats during our four night stay. On our last night we were surprised by George's fresh baked apple pie. The B&B is able to accommodate my gluten free needs. We will definitely stay here again, next time we are in Ottawa.
Amazing place, friends for life
Amazing place, and amazing hosts. George and Charmine turned from my landlords to my friends. I miss you and remember you with lot of love. The house will make you feel home with premium rooms and breakfast. Truly supported to make your stay smooth. Congratulations! God bless
Greeted with a warm welcome
As soon as we walked in, Charmaine & George greeted us like dearly missed family. Their kindness continued throughout our whole stay. Breakfast was a delight and the atmosphere was quite relaxed, which encouraged fascinating conversations around the table. Our room was comfortable and Charmaine's signature apple pie, provided in our room, was excellent. Plenty of attractions are within walking distance. All in all, a very pleasant stay
We visit Ottawa quite often as our daughter attends school there, and so when we discovered Ashbury House, we knew we had hit the jackpot! We are always welcomed like family, no matter how long it has been: my recent visit was the first in well over a year. Charmaine and George make you feel at home the minute you step in: they have lots of travel experience so they are a natural choice for anyone from out of town, even out of country. We have met people from every continent at breakfast, so the conversation is always lively! Speaking of breakfast: it is always generous and delicious. And they are very flexible with dietary needs. On my last visit one of the guests needed to avoid gluten due to health, and that was accommodated with ease.
Ashbury's location in the Glebe is a definite plus: the area is full of great restaurants and shopping, and very close to Carleton Campus. On my recent weekend I hardly used the car at all as everything I needed was in walking or short bus distance.
I highly recommend this B and B and will keep returning until they stop running it.!
Best Greeting Ever!
Long day at work, a 4+ hour drive made worse by a delay at the border crossing, a missed turn that added more time--it was all forgotten the minute the door opened at the Ashbury House. George greeted us with a smile and a handshake, then Charmaine appeared with 2 huge slices of her homemade apple crumble pie! Heaven on Earth! I have never received a more amazing, delicious welcome. George and Charmaine are special people--their warmth is genuine, her cooking is spectacular, and the conversation is stimulating. One morning they invited their neighbor over for breakfast--a history professor at the University. It made for great discussion and honestly by the end of breakfast it felt like we had all been friends for years. It takes special hosts to facilitate that. The house is in a great neighborhood, and we were able to walk to the Nature Museum, then walk the canal up to Parliament and the downtown area. We will definitely return to Ottawa (what a gorgeous, friendly city), and when we do, we will stay with our old new friends George and Charmaine.
The Ashbury House is located in the Glebe area of Ottawa. Very close to museums, great restaurants and shops. This beautiful home is in a neighborhood of similar old, large well kept homes. It was fun walking around the neighborhood enjoying the architecture.
The inn keepers, Charmaine and George could not have been any kinder and welcoming! We felt comfortable and at home right away. They even upgraded us to a suite as a nice surprise. The bed was so comfy , really soft nice sheets and good pillows too.
Ottawa is great for biking and George was so helpful in providing us with good information on where to go.
The breakfasts were yummy & conversation at the table lively& interesting.
Everyone that we met in Ottawa was very friendly. I love this city.
I highly recommend the Ashbury house to anyone that wants a great value . This beats a hotel any day! We travel frequently and prefer B&B's.
Don't miss this one!!
Comfortable stay with full breakfast
Charmayne and George are very welcoming and had helpful suggestions of places to go. George helped park the car until I got used to it. I stayed 5 days here with a comfortable queen bed. The air conditioner kept the room very comfortable and I had a sound sleep. There is a private bathroom with shower , easy chairs, closet and dresser. My only problem was that the mirrors were all high, so not so convenient for someone 5 feet tall.
The hot breakfast was different every morning and tasted wonderful. The neighbourhood is quiet and close to places I wanted to go.
Friendly place to stay
We arrived here early afternoon and Charmaine wasn't in the least put out and provided us with hot drinks and apple crumble while we sat on her front porch until our room was ready. We had booked the Mulberry room but Charmaine had decided to upgrade us to the apartment which takes up the top floor of the house so we had a very spacious suite. This comprised a large lounge and dining area, kitchen, bathroom, balcony plus one double and one twin bedroom. the B & B has off road parking for all guests and is situated on a pleasant residential street. Charmaine's breakfasts offered something for everyone and there was plenty of it. It was all served at the very large and elegant dining table downstairs. Both Charmaine and George are very hospitable hosts. The B & B is within very easy walking distance of Bank Street where there is an exceedingly frequent bus service to downtown Ottawa. You can purchase bus tickets at the nearby grocery store. We took advantage of this and left our car on the B & B parking lot for the duration of our stay.
Great place to stay, feels like home
George and Charmaine make you feel comfortable since the arrival, such a lovely and kind couple. Our room was big, cozy and the bed was fantastic. It has an excellent location near Bank St. and Carleton which was great for us. The breakfast is wonderful with fresh fruit and bacon! George and Charmaine were always available and helped us a lot during our stay since we were moving to Canada and needed a few tips about the city. We'll definitely recommend to all our friends and relatives visiting the city.
Really great place to stay
We booked before my partner sadly passed away but i decided to make the trip anyway as we were intending to visit a friend who lives nearby.
I'm really pleased that I decided to go. Breakfasts were amazing, the company lively and interesting and Charmaine and George looked after me brilliantly.
You have to try the warm apple pie, it's delicious.
Charmaine and George make your stay perfect. This B&B is located close to 417 and close to public transit to get downtown.
The rooms and beds are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. We like the Magnolia Suite which has a door between 2 separate sleeping areas.
This B&B doesn't have central a/c, but our room had in room a/c and fans so that was fine.
My preferred place in Ottawa since I discovered it in 2011 during a business trip
I still die for Sharmaine's Crumble Apple Pie
Omg!!! Never had one better in my whole life...
Beds are so comfortable, I basically have been in all their rooms.
Georges and Sharmaine and amazing hosts, always giving tips about places, where go out, to eat and much more
They are always available even for a chichat, how cannot feel home staying at their place.... Impossible!
Can't wait to go back and have that amazing pie besides my ned on top of my night table and that tasty breakfast in the morning
Thanks again to have make me so great memories about Ottawa guys
Home away from home
Location is excellent, right in the Glebe area, with lots of unique shops and eatery. Charmaine and George made you feel like a part of their family. And their breakfast is like a five star restaurant.
Most people are repeat customers, like us. We would never stay in a hotel whenever we comes to Ottawa.
Warm and charming B&B
This small historic house in the central Glebe area offers a B&B run by the most charming and friendly couple. The rooms are very comfortable, although the bathrooms are tiny. The breakfasts are amazing. Over three mornings, we never had the same menu.
Extremely caring and accommodating!!!
I stayed with George and Charmaine for 2 weeks when I was in Ottawa. George and Charmaine were very welcoming and nice! I had very early morning starts to my day which meant I would not be able to join the breakfast service, however Charmaine was nice enough to prepare me breakfast and leave it by my door the night before! I would absolutely recommend the Ashubury house and hope to be able to come back and visit!
WE LOVED THIS PLACE! We are from SF and were taking a road trip through Ontario, so we booked last minute and George was very accommodating -- he welcomed us with apple pie and tea! The room was decorated with so much taste and was also completely spotless. The en-suite bathroom and shower were also perfectly clean and in great condition. There was AC in the unit, a comfortable bed, free wifi, great art, a nice sitting area, privacy, free parking, and all on a sweet and quiet tree lined street with very kind hosts. We didn't want to leave. Thank you Ashbury House! We can't wait to come back.
A heart felt and welcoming experience. This is the most friendly stay I have ever had from place over the globe. The food is also outstanding.
My friend from Calgary stayed there for 10 days, I went for breakfast. It was great, the food awsome, conversation at the table was enjoyable. It is a great place to stay, near small shops.
Had a lovely stay on The long weekend... Warm and welcoming hosts. Will be back for the amazing food and company!
Ashbury House is excellent, I've stayed there twice already and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay on both occasions. The owners are always making sure you're taken care of, the breakfasts are delicious and the rooms are cozy and wonderful. I don't stay anywhere else in Ottawa.
